Federal prosecutors plan to accuse BP next week in a civil trial that the company made a series of decisions that caused it to be grossly negligent, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sealed court documents. The 'negligence' lead to the 2010 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig followed by a 87-day oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, prosecutors will argue.
A BP attorney told the Journal in a statement that the company didn't engage in gross negligence. The lawsuit is being brought by the federal government and a number of other plaintiffs, who say they were harmed by the spill.
