Hey, Jealousy

Now that she has some free time, perhaps HRC can take McCain out for a beer (or a shot) to commiserate about the media's infatuation w/Obama. Maybe she can even give him some advice on what not to do about it.

-- The difference between HRC's and McCain's "media love affair" attacks is that she had SNL making her case. When B. Clinton tried his hand (a la "fairy tales"), well, we all know how that turned out.

-- Voters are concerned that Obama is not prepared or experienced enough for the job. It's a message the McCain camp is hammering every day. But does McCain risk undermining his own commander-in-chief cred by letting it look as if Obama's getting under his skin?

-- Time's Klein thinks so. He said McCain's claim that Obama would rather "lose a war in order to win a political campaign" renews questions "about whether McCain has the right temperament for the presidency." One (Dem-friendly) man's opinion, to be sure. And getting attacked by the press is always a good for riling up one's conservative base.

-- McCain is right not to let this contest be defined by who wins the "charm offensive." And his smiling response to on-camera questions on the topic has been well-advised. But if his actions change the question from "is Obama up to the challenge?" to "does McCain have the temperamant?", well, that's not good for McCain either.

Quote of the Day

"I didn't know I hit him."

— Bob Novak, on reports he hit a pedestrian, Politico, 7/23.
