Campaign 2001 Archives

Campaign 2001 Election Day 2001 was a good one for the Democratic Party, which took the gubernatorial races in both New Jersey and Virginia. (The GOP did score a surprise victory in the New York City mayoral race, however.)

In the seven House special elections that took place over the course of the year, Republicans won five seats and Democrats took two. The year's results gave the GOP a net gain in the House of one seat, which came from the party's win in Virginia's 4th District.
