"Mainers gave Democratic Gov. John Baldacci of Bangor another four-year lease on the Blaine House" Nov. 7, "ending a lengthy gubernatorial campaign that offered voters five candidates with widely divergent views and styles" (Portland Press Herald, 11/8/06). ..... Baldacci has a "perceived vulnerability" and the lure of public financing. But most say "no challenger appears to have staked a commanding claim" (AP/Portland Press Herald, 3/6/06). ..... Former Lewiston Mayor John Jenkins (I) "has become the latest candidate in the race" (AP, 2/7/06). ..... The number of candidates hit 12, with three new additions: Developer David Jones (I), Christopher Miller (D) and State Rep.
